"Well My Goodness"-- Blog 12

Today, the EC class went bowling and since I didnt go with them I went to the art class at the elementary school. So I get over there and there is a class that is just getting over that had been painting the sea scenes. That class ends in about 30 minutes and I go to lunch. When I come back I see one of my little buddies standing outside the door. Now Buddy has a combo of Autism mixed with some other stuff, but his mom wont let him take medications or go to special classes so he's no "labeled". Art Lady says that he "runs on the moons cycle", and today was definitley a full moon type of day. He looked upset and was kicking the door, so when I got up there I asked him "What's the matter?" and he says along with alot of moaning "She always yells at me and I get in trouble". So I was like "Okay, well just cool off out here for just a little longer and Art Lady will come and get you". So I go inside and the class in on the rug talking about a painting and what they're painting today. When they go to their tables and start drawing Art Lady went outside to talk to Buddy. When Little Buddy and Art Lady came back in  he still looked upset but went to his seat.

Now starts the drawing. He tried to draw a boat, and apparently failed because he tried to through his paper away. But Art Lady told him to just draw on the other side. He drew the boat again and got upset so I went and sat by him to help him. We turned the boat into a submarine and he drew a little spy hole, a little man, and wanted to draw a anchor. "I want an anchor!! How do you draw a anchorrrr! Help me!!" (Heres where the "well my goodness" comes in) So I flipped over the paper and I showed him how to draw one. After 20 times drawing a anchor, getting mad, erasing it, then drawing it again he finally decided to keep one of them. Art Lady told me that even if he drew like Monet it would still look bad in his eyes. Class was over and I said good bye to not only Little Buddy, but all my other Little Buddies and I left. Good day.

  1. Awww poor buddy! I hate when kids are so hard on themselves! Some kids can have amazing work, yet they still can't see their talent, no matter who tells them. I think you did what was best in that situation, just let him be and let him keep on drawing and erasing. I think that's all we can do, try to give him praise for the good things and the creative things he did and the rest is up to him to decide! -Sarah
