I LOVE writing on dry erase boards, so when I go in the room I always write what today is or what we're doing or what we're doing tomorrow or whatever. So today I wrote "QUESADILLA DAY!" really big on the board. I hear Yoosh mumble "If you keep doing that, your gonna have to buy me some new markers" I laugh and say "Aww I'm sorry Yoosh, I didn't know it bothered you! I can stop if you want me to" with a laugh from him he says "Okay!". Yeah. I'm not stopping. That is how this fabulous thing called "QUESADILLA DAY!" started.
In the EC class, they learn how to do everyday stuff that a adult should know how to do. Such as cooking meals, cleaning, defrosting meat properly, counting change, and a bunch of other stuff. Well today was all about defrosting and preparing raw meat, cleaning up after raw food, separating the "rawness" from other stuff, cooking it, and cleaning up afterwards. To demonstrate, we made quesadillas. I love quesadillas so I was gung ho about this activity.
It was pretty much exactly what you would think a "Quesadilla Day" would be like in this EC Class. Lots of Napoleon Dynamite references, lots of laughing, the smell of burned cheese, and "Bird" climbing out the window. But thats a different story.
First we learned how to separate it all and why it needs to be separated, and stuff like that. Then we learned a bunch about the small, simple details that make up a day of making quesadillas. After we finished all that we migrated into the kitchen. Yoosh was going to prepare all the food for the kids and then the teachers would make it for themselves. This was great. He prepared one to demonstrate and then the kids went into the classroom for their movie. Yoosh and Gma went before me and they made theirs with, what looked like, little trouble. Then Kate cooks hers, and totally burns the bottoms of it. I cooked mine, a little burnedness but nothing bad. Then News Man cooks his. As with everything else News Man does, it was absolutely perfect. The man really can do nothing not perfect. Its quite aggravating. Anyway, we all get done cooking ours and we pass out the kids quesadillas, chips, and salsa. Oh and the drinks. Can't forget about the beloved "orange drink" (orange soda). Like we always do on fridays, we count up the movie reward chips, do our activity, then watch a movie. Me and Kate usually watch the movie... and the kids of course or play some of the amazing games on "CoolMathGames.com". In this class, a movie on friday can really be a life saver sometimes.
Here is that side story about "Bird". His nickname was "Bird" before this happened, so it was kinda funny how they connected. Well because of the burning cheese it was starting to get quite fragrant and a little smoky in the room so we decided to open up the windows in the back to get some air circulation. Right outside the window is a roof that makes up like a porch looking thing that someone could go out on. So I was like "Kate, me and you should take a field trip out to the roof!". Gma quickly cut in, laughing, and said "Dont you give these kids any ideas!" I was just playing around but one of the kids must have taken me seriously. Bird sits at his desk (by the window), does his work, plays with this play dough stuff, and sometimes draws. Well since his desk is right by the window, the wind caught one of his prized drawings and flung it out to the roof. Me and Kate were all making quesadillas and Gma, News Man, and Lowa were in the classroom. Well Gma told me that she looked up and saw Birds booty hanging out of the window, as he was climbing out head first. Lowa jumped up and went out the other window onto the roof to get him from the front and News Man grabbed his feet trying to get him back in. That didnt work. Bird calmly got his paper, crawled back in, and sat down. While everyone else in the room were having panic attacks, all bird was concerned about was his drawing. That was the perfect ending to a awesome day.
Ugh. Did my comment not show up?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love how excited you are and how your writing just makes it seem like an everyday classroom. That didn't even sound like the compliment I meant it to be but the way it's just "another day at Mr. Yoosh's" is actually pretty cool.
What are some challenges you go through with Mr. Yoosh? Ever feel tired?
Umm well, by the end of the day pretty much everyone in that classroom is tired... including the kids. Other challenges that I go through with Mr. Yoosh could be that sometimes he wants me to do something or not do something but he doesnt really say it. Or he will say it sarcastically sounding, so thats kinda confusing. But other than that I love being in his classroom with the kids and the teachers.
